Mountain Community College 9BMCC) is a comprehensive community college located in Pendleton, Oregon. Program areas include professional technical certificates and degrees, college transfer degrees, college preparatory and adult basic skills training, workforce development programs, continuing education, and community education. The college serves four counties in northeastern Oregon: Baker, Grant, Morrow, and Umatilla. In addition to its primary site in Pendleton, satellite locations are established in Hermiston, Baker City, Milton-Freewater, Boardman, and John Day. BMCC also provides on-site services to the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. It employs distance education learning management systems to better serve residents of the region.

Eastern Oregon University is a state-funded, four-year university located in La Grande Oregon. Initially established as a teachers' college it has evolved over the years to become a full service institution offering bachelors and master's degrees. The school is composed of the College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Arts and Sciences. It is located in the heart of the Blue Mountain range, 45 minutes from Pendleton, and between Portland, Oregon and Boise, Idaho, just off Interstate 84.
